Announcing PipelineDB Cluster

Since launching PipelineDB in July of last year, we've been fortunate enough to have a steadily growing base of thoughtful, engaged and patient users who have played a key role in the evolution of PipelineDB. Many of these users are beginning to rely heavily on using PipelineDB in production, which is a trend we expect to continue and accelerate.

As a result, it is of critical importance to us that PipelineDB, the company, becomes a financially self-sustaining entity that can continue to improve and support its free and open-source core product without being dependent on anyone or anything that isn't as fanatical about building amazing infrastrucutre products as we are.

After much research and experimentation, the business model that we've determined to be ideal in this vein for both our users and our company is to sell a commercial edition of PipelineDB that extends the functionality of the free and open-souce PipelineDB Core. We call this PipelineDB Cluster, and we couldn't be more excited to announce its public availability today.

PipelineDB Enterprise delivers out-of-the-box support for clustering, high-availability, realtime push (think triggers on steroids), high performance storage formats, backups and disaster recovery, and enterprise support. All of these capabilities are possible with the open-source PipelineDB Core -- PipelineDB Cluster just makes it easier, more efficient, and includes 24/7 support from the engineers who built it.

Architecting PipelineDB Enterprise as a bolt-on extension to the open-source core rather than as a separate product benefits all of our users by ensuring the ongoing development and improvement of both products for the long term. We genuinely feel that this approach achieves an optimal balance between financial sustainability and continued contribution to the open-source community.

We want to thank all of our open-source users for their product feedback over the last six months. We have learned a tremendous amount from you all and look forward to continuing to build a robust and meaningful open-source community around the PipelineDB Core.

If you are interested to get your hands on a test version of PipelineDB Cluster, please email us at enterprise@pipelinedb.com or fill out the lead capture on the new Cluster page of our website.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

CEO and Co-Founder, PipelineDB
